Molokai Ranch Various Projects, Molokai, Hawaii

Covering more than a third of the island, Molokai Ranch has been part of the island life for more than a century. In the 1990’s the Ranch decided to attract more visitors by introducing a new model for lodging and recreation. The new paradigm included a mix of outdoor activities and comfortable but rustic accommodations spread throughout the Ranch, from the town of Maunaloa to the cliffs of Kolo and the shores of Kaupoa.

The camp accommodations epitomize Philip K. White & Associates’ green philosophy and culturally-sensitive design approach. Each lodging unit was designed to run itself utilizing solar water heating for showers and composting toilets. Over a ten year period, three campsites, a visitor’s center, two recreational parks, a rodeo arena and restaurant were developed to further enhance the program.
